What exactly is book coaching anyway?
It’s like having a personal trainer for your writing life. My book coaching methods support you through the writing process, provide accountability, and help you maintain a productive mindset.
What can you do to help me?
I can help you clarify your book’s concept so that it shines through from the first chapter. Then I can help you write forward by giving you feedback, accountability, and support while you write. By feedback, I mean extensive comments on various facets of every page you produce. I’m like a book project manager — helping guide you on when to rethink, when to let something simmer, and when to push forward. My clients generally turn in work twice a month, and we follow up with periodic phone calls as needed, usually once a month.
Can you guarantee success? A book deal? An agent?
Nope — not a chance. But will you end up being proud of what you have written, filled with satisfaction, and have a solid base to build on? That I can guarantee to any writer willing to put in the hard work.
I’ve never published anything. Will coaching still work for me?
If you are open to coaching and willing to work hard, you will do well. If you are looking for a shortcut or for someone to do the work for you, we’re not a good fit.
I’ve already published a book. Will coaching still work for me?
Absolutely. A book coach often becomes a key part of a published author’s team. I specialize in helping writers – published and unpublished — lay the foundation for a book, so they can write forward with confidence and produce a quality first draft.
I’ve taken workshops and classes and writing groups. How is this different?
Coaching is 100% focused on you and your work. You don’t have to workshop your pages with those who may not share your sensibilities or experience. You don’t have to try to distill general advice into something that works for your manuscript or genre. You don’t have to read pages to a group and hope they know how to give feedback that helps instead of hurts. Book coaching is about your work, your process, and your goals.
